Can Snakes Dig Holes. Sure glad I use a shovel instead of my head. Ive watched a couple do it.
Try digging a hole with your mouth and you will understand what I mean. If you know anything about snakes you know that the vast majority of species of these reptiles live in burrows that are in ground. Although it is true that snakes often find their home in holes most often they are not the creators and builders of these holes.
Snakes can shimmy under loose soil mud sand or leaf litter but they cant generally dig or excavate into the packed earth.
These holes vary in size and may be found in the ground in trees and even in cracks or abscesses in wooden or concrete walls. While in these environments snakes may seek shelter in tree hollows under logs leaf litter underground holes rock outcroppings andor burrows that have been abandoned by other animals. Although they live under the ground in holes they usually dont dig these holes themselves because they are not capable of digging decent holes. However they are not able to make their own holes.
